Day 1: Marrakech to M’Hamid El Ghizlane
We start with an early morning journey from Marrakech, traversing the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering breathtaking views. Witness the picturesque landscapes, villages and several kasbahs, including Tamnougalte and the UNESCO-listed Aït Benhaddou. A famous setting for Hollywood movies, it stands as one of Morocco’s best-preserved kasbahs. Continue through the Draa River valley, reaching Zagora, the capital of dates, and finally, oasis town M’Hamid El Ghizlane. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: M’Hamid to Ras Nekhal – Sidi Naji
Set out on a camel trek, retracing the steps of the trans-Saharan caravans from Marrakech to Timbuktu in Mali. Explore diverse desert landscapes, beginning the trek with Sahrawi nomads.
Day 3: Sidi Naji to Lhdibat
The second day of the camel trek starts in the morning. After breakfast in the desert and folding up our mobile camp, continue the trek for approximately 2 to 3 hours in the morning and a similar duration in the afternoon. Journey through the dunes of Sidi Naji, advancing further into the Sahara.
Day 4: Erg Zahar to Erg Samar to Erg Sedra
On the third day, the trek takes you from the dunes of Bougarn to Oued Drâa, with Tamarisk and palm groves along the way. Reach Erg Smar by day’s end, where nomadic tents will be set up.
Day 5: Erg Sedra to Erg Zahar
After spending the night in Erg Smar, head towards the dunes of Erg Zahar. Experience the vastness of the desert and the soothing sounds of the dunes in the wind. Enjoy a hike in the Erg Zahar dunes and savor the sunset landscape.
Day 6: Erg Zahar to Erg Zmaila
Continue the caravan’s trek through the desert, progressing from Erg Zahar to Erg Zmila. Witness a new landscape unfolding, with the interplay of light and colors on the dunes. Spend your final night in the Sahara Desert.
Day 7: Erg Zmila to M’Hamid
In the morning, after breakfast, embark on the trek from Erg Zmila back to M’hamid.
Day 8: M’hamid to Marrakech
